Environmental Education in Social Media
Pinterest Board: Environmental EducationThis is a Pinterest board full of lesson plans and activities that teachers can use in their classroom. The cool thing about every one of these ideas is that the age range of children is so huge! There are also many graphs and statistics about pollution, recycling and even cell phone use effecting the environment. Teachers could use this as a resource to find and keep all of the things that they find in one place. I was able to make my own board and title it Environmental Education, so if other teachers or adults saw this, they would be able to access everything I found on the topic. There are a lot of lesson plans, art projects, and illustrations that teachers could use in their classrooms and seeing so many ideas might motivate them to come up with their own and share them.

Tweets: #environmentaleducationThis is a twitter feed of different ideas on implementing environmental education into classrooms. Each post has the hashtag #environmentaleducation so it is easy to search. Some posts provide links, and some provide great ideas and lesson plans. Using social media to find ideas and ways to teach can be very beneficial in this generation, and it is so easy to find exactly what topics you are looking for. Using twitter, people are able to voice their thoughts and opinions on important issues in our world like environmental education. Seeing so many people speaking out through tweets, may encourage others to do the same. Twitter accounts can also easily be made for users to share quotes about the planet, photos that they take, or just to share their appreciation for this beautiful world.

Facebook: NEEFA very popular site, Facebook, even has a page just for the National Environmental Education Foundation. On their Facebook page, there are photos, links, videos and posts all about environmental education. The page was created by the National Environmental Education Foundation (http://www.neefusa.org/) and their primary goal is to provide lifelong environmental learning by connecting people to knowledge they use to improve the quality of their lives and the health of the planet. Facebook is a great way to share information and raise awareness with people, because it is used all over the world. Facebook allows people to take posts from pages, like the NEEF, and share them with their own followers. By doing this, the post was not only seen by that person who shared, but by everyone that follows them too. Whether it is just a post, photo, video, link or anything that the foundation wants to get out there, they can all be shared and continue to be shared. Reaching out to people with a website is one thing, but by reaching out through a site that people use daily can have a huge impact on your foundation, helping raise awareness all over Facebook.

Top 10 Best Environmental Blogs
Blogging is something that has become very popular in the past decade. Similar to tweeting, people are able to post their thoughts and concerns about things near and dear to their hearts. The flipside is that blogging allows them to share more information with people on specific sites for a topic. People that are a part of the blog are given the opportunity to comment on posts and ask questions, or even answer questions that someone might have asked. In education, blogging has been extremely beneficial to teachers for sharing lesson plans, how to use new technology in classrooms, and how to teach important topics effectively. I found a website that lists the Top 10 Best Environmental Blogs. Although these blogs are not specifically on how to teach, they provide information about real things that are going on today. I think that teachers could use these blogs to find and raise awareness for issues going on, which can spark discussions in classrooms. Students could share their opinions and ideas about the environment, encouraging them to help save the planet.
